Caught this nice sized bass trawling off the back of the goatboat ...... November 2007. "At one with nature" - especially when it tastes so damn gooooooood ;-)

This place was weird ........ when I pulled up at the beach it looked 2ft+ at most. I watched for a while and it looked easy enough. Nah!!! ....... it was full on - shifting peaks, strong currents, backwash to the left with a wedge full of bodyboarders, and pretty damn big sets that made the inside section well heavy!!

Costa Caparica, South of Lisbon.

This is where I did most of my surfing on the Portugal trip ...... fun clean waves. It never got much over 3ft but there was the odd bigger set that came through making the shorebreak nice 'n heavy!

The local surfers here were very good but the atmosphere in the water was friendly enough - so long as you gave them respect. The fishermen that fish off the big rock jetties seem to hate surfers though. There was a big fight on the beach with a local fishermen grabing a longboarder by the throat. It took four people to calm him down and prevent anything more serious. Yikes.

TOP TWO: Plaja do Guincho barrel - left hand side of the beach was hollow. Check out this barrel .... if you zoom into the second picture you can "just" see the nose of the board. Totally slotted and made it out too. Nice.

SECOND TWO: Far left of the beach had a backwash wedge giving some really nice rides.
