17 Nov 08 Update : So what's the news .........
Well the good news is that the ‘credit-crunch’, ‘economic armageddon’, and the complete and utter collapse of ‘life as we know it’ has had no effect of the surf!.....hoooorah! OK, so it’s pretty damn expensive getting TO the beach - with crude oil costing “pound-for-pound” about the same as liquid gold, but apart from that - no effect.
Surfwise it hasn’t been an epic month but a couple of decent sessions were had.
For the first time in a LONG time (honest!) Roz and I made the long trip up to North Devon and shamefully “bottled it”. Everywhere apart from Puts was torn apart by the wind and Puts looked about as inviting as a car crash…….. 4-5ft with bigger clean up sets and nowhere to hide. It was cold, wet, grey, and massive so we totally and utterly ‘bottled it’ I’m afraid (oh, the shame of it all!). Roz did actually get out of the van but I didn’t even do that! We agreed never to speak of it (Oops) – and went shopping instead! I feel bad even typing it…..ha ha.
Anyway – to make up for this shameful act of cowardice – yesterday Mark and I spent almost three hours in chunky, 3ft, c.c.c.cold Puts dodging sets and blowing the back out of many a gnarly lump! It was real fun and a great work-out. We exited the water with smiles on our faces and having totally earned our ‘full English’ breakfast. I was up ‘early doors’ at 5:30am to pick Mark up and get in for high tide shelter. A certain air of redemption (for the previous ‘bottle it - shopping trip’) filled Wild Thyme café that morning as we scoffed down our bacon, sausage and eggs! At least I can stop wearing this damn ‘white feather’ now! ;-)
Well, I’m off to Tesco to spend a “week’s wages on a day’s food” so unless the fall of capitalism finally results in me starving to death I’ll update again soon ;-) …. until next time peeps.
