1 August 2009: News Flash: Sun spotted in North Devon!
Yes, you heard it here first folks! ........ the SUN actually came out and it stopped raining for a brief moment in North Devon on Saturday morning. During a surf session at Puts with Mark we were both amazed to see the strange glowing, yellow object in the sky. Surely this was something more common - like a sighting of Halley's Comet !? ...hmmm? Some people in the car park were talking about an old wives tale known as "SUMMER" - the fools, everyone knows that there is no such thing ;-).
I was testing out my new Xcel Infiniti 3/2mm X-Zip ........ amazing wetsuit, super flexible, comfortable and warm :0)
We surfed Puts from mid to high tide with cleanish surf in the 2-3ft range ....... had a break to refuel with a great Puts all-day breakfast, and then headed over to Croyde for an afternoon surf. The surf at Croyde was "wild" - walls of whitewater, heavy paddle out and currents. Having eventually made it out back it was a case of dodging the peaks, duckdiving to stay in position and waiting for a set with some shape to arrive - I eventually picked a set wave and got well an truely nailed and held down for a while. Not fun ! ...... we got out after a short session and were both pretty pleased to be back on dry land. The sea was pretty angry that day - two miles further up the coast at Barracane Beach a surf-ski'er drowned after being caught in a rip and thrashed against the rocks!
More surf planned next weekend ............... ! Then the Falmouth trip for 3 days in two weeks time. All good !!! :-)
