19 September 2009 (Black Rock and "Rocky Rights")

K2 buoy has been showing an increase in swell but throughout the morning it had been RUBBISH... just very weak front-edge swell with no sign of the real groundswell showing. Mark had put in the train miles again (and handed over another small fortune to the rail company coughers) in his quest to get out of the big smoke and into the water so it was time to "take a punt" and drive to a currently flat to tiny beach in the hope that swell would "arrive"............ and arrive it did. We got lucky (or reaped the benefits of some absolutely superb surf forecasting ... which ever way you want to look at it!) and surfed a good 3hrs first and Black Rock and then for a great hour (with only 4 out) at the rocky right hand reef area to the west of Widemouth..... no idea if it has a name but i'm calling it "Rocky Rights" for blog-purposes. It was great fun out there and we surfed til sunset before heading to the local pub for a well earned pint of ale and some ham, egg 'n chips. A great day. Mark's new found confidence in the water is "looking good" and even though he did pull off the "drop-in of the century" on me out there (ha ha) .... it's great to see him paddling hard for waves over rocks and catching some goooooodens. Nice one mate. But remember "one mistake and you out" (in Spanish pidgeon English!!!) ha ha ha :0)
